Remote Design Collaboration on Architectural Design in Extended Reality

Principal Investigator

This study explored how Extended Reality (XR) can support architectural design directly on-site through remote collaboration. An Mixed Reality (MR) collaboration system was developed and evaluated, connecting an on-site designer in Okinawa with a remote collaborator in Tokyo to enable real-time co-design of a building proposal. The findings highlighted key opportunities and challenges for supporting immersive on-site design through remote expertise and computational assistance, providing insights for the future development of distributed XR design environments.
