Gaze Sharing in XR for Design Education

PROJECT
Gaze sharing makes another person's visual attention perceptible. While previous research has demonstrated its potential for education, its application to design learning remains relatively unexplored. This project investigates how real-time gaze sharing in XR can support communication between students and instructors during design activities.

APPROACH
A cyber-physical workspace was developed in which the gaze of students and instructors can be visualized in real time. Using Microsoft HoloLens 2 headsets, participants can perceive where the other person is looking while interacting with physical or digital design representations. Both one-sided and dual gaze-sharing configurations were explored.

CONTRIBUTION
Making visual attention explicit introduces an additional communication channel into design education, with the potential to support shared attention, explanation, and mutual understanding during design critiques.
