Studying the Effects of Real-Time Gaze Sharing on Student–Instructor Communication

PROJECT
Architectural critiques rely heavily on communication between students and instructors, yet much of the information involved in design discussion remains visual and difficult to articulate. This project examined whether sharing gaze information in real time could facilitate communication by making participants' focus of attention mutually visible.

APPROACH
Gaze-sharing technology was introduced into architectural design critiques and evaluated through user studies. Rather than treating eye tracking solely as an analytical tool used after an activity, the research employed gaze information during the interaction itself as a communication medium.

CONTRIBUTION
The work provides empirical evidence for treating gaze as an active component of design communication and helps establish the educational potential of technology-mediated shared attention.
