Understanding Design, Augmenting Teams
Mapping Design Science
PROJECT
As design science expands across disciplines, its intellectual structure becomes increasingly difficult to understand as a whole. This project develops computational approaches for mapping design research, revealing recurring questions, themes, methods, theoretical foundations, and scholarly communities.
APPROACH
Large bodies of scholarly literature are analyzed computationally to identify structures that would be difficult to expose through conventional manual review alone. Individual studies examine design computing and CAAD research while contributing toward a broader map of design science.
CONTRIBUTION
The project develops a scalable way of understanding the structure and evolution of design knowledge, helping researchers locate connections across domains, recognize underexplored areas, and identify emerging directions.
