The Holographic Studio

PROJECT
Remote design education typically separates students and instructors from the physical and social context of the design studio. This project investigated real-time virtual teleportation in Mixed Reality, exploring whether remote participants could appear within a shared cyber-physical workspace and interact more naturally around architectural design content.

APPROACH
A Mixed Reality environment was developed to integrate remotely located participants into a shared design setting through real-time holographic representation. The system was explored as an alternative mode of remote architectural education, with particular attention to interaction and communication around spatial design content.

CONTRIBUTION
The project demonstrates how immersive telepresence can move remote design education beyond conventional screen-based communication, creating a stronger sense of spatial co-presence between students and instructors. The work was subsequently presented at eCAADe 2023.
