Sustainable Housing Inspired by Middle Eastern Architecture

PROJECT
Be'er Sheba's semi-arid climate and strong prevailing winds create both challenges and opportunities for residential architecture. aeroHouse explored how passive environmental principles derived from traditional Middle Eastern architecture could be reinterpreted for contemporary housing while reducing dependence on mechanical cooling.

APPROACH
The design draws on the windcatcher, a traditional architectural element used to naturally regulate indoor temperatures in hot-arid climates. Rather than attaching a conventional wind tower to the building, the typology was reinterpreted so that the distinction between windcatcher and dwelling becomes blurred.

CONTRIBUTION
The proposal explores how vernacular environmental knowledge can inform contemporary sustainable design, using architectural form itself to respond to local climatic conditions.
