Computational Envelope Design for Ramon International Airport
PROJECT
The envelope of Ramon International Airport Terminal in Eilat, Israel presented a large-scale computational design and fabrication challenge. The project involved approximately 26,000 m² of envelope within a 30,000 m² building and required translating architectural and engineering requirements into manufacturable components.
APPROACH
As CTO of ParaGroup, my work focused on geometric rationalization and computational modeling to support envelope design and manufacturing. Computational procedures automatically generated 3D CAD models and shop drawings for the secondary truss system and beams according to architectural and engineering constraints, while geometry was optimized to facilitate manufacturing and construction.
CONTRIBUTION
The computational workflow helped connect design geometry with fabrication information, supporting an efficient CAD-to-CAM process for the realization of a complex building envelope at architectural scale.
